Hey, gals and guys! T minus four days until the election. Things seem to be trending in the GOP’s direction, with RealClearPolitics showing Republicans +3 on the generic ballot. They have a really good breakdown here of how things look in the Senate, and the House situation is here. Early voting numbers also look strong for Republicans (Ron DeSantis may even take deep-blue Miami-Dade!).
Now for the disclaimer. None of this is a sure thing. Pollsters get it wrong all the time, and early voting stats can be deceiving. I know you know this, but I’m going to say it anyway: treat all of it like we’re losing. That’s the best way to seal the deal. Also, get out there and vote! Give the Dems a shellackin’ and send ‘em packin’.
Have a great weekend, everyone!

Speaking of losers
Did you see the Wall Street Journal poll released earlier this week that showed Republicans making huge gains among voting groups that had traditionally voted for Democrats?
The GOP has seen a shift in its favor among several voter groups, including Latino voters and women, and particularly white suburban women. That group, which the pollsters said makes up 20% of the electorate, shifted 26 percentage points away from Democrats since the Journal’s August poll and now favors the GOP by 15 percentage points.
The numbers are startling.
By allowing themselves to be pulled so far to the left, Dems are losing their foundational voting bases. It’s not rocket science, of course, that an agenda that emphasizes abortion, inflation and mob rule alienates a large part of the electorate. Dems almost certainly believe they will replenish their dwindling minority support by making voters of all the illegals streaming through our southern border. Judging by the number of Hispanics moving their support to Republicans, however, that might be a serious miscalculation.
The part that really fascinates me is the number of white suburban women who have fled the Democrat party. These are my people; oh, how I know them. Soccer moms. Minivan moms. PTA moms. Wine moms. They work out next to me at Orangetheory and take way too long to drop off their kids in the carpool line at school.
As a voting bloc, they’ve frustrated me for years because they are often the ones who’ve voted in large enough numbers to put Democrats — and their family un-friendly policies — in power. We all know how that turns out: less money in the paycheck, higher prices at the grocery store and the gas pump, rampant crime and soft-core porn in the kindergarten library.
COVID changed everything.
The lockdowns gave many women the time they don’t normally have to take a closer look at how things are run in this country, and they didn’t like what they saw. Teachers’ unions blocked their children from returning to school, despite ample scientific evidence showing it was safe. We are just now beginning to see the fall out from that — test scores are down and depression is up. Funnily enough, women don’t like that.
You know what else we don’t like? The white suburban busybodies who were so offended when parents started taking an interest in local school boards. I’m sure you know the type of woman I’m talking about — she covets the power that comes with being a room mom, then moves up the ladder to PTA, then the school board. And she’s convinced she knows better than you what’s best for your kids. She’s mad with perceived power, which gives her that identity she craves, but is lacking in every other facet of her life. Harsh, maybe, but fair.
Unfortunately for the Dems, the renewed interest in parents rights and the left’s war on children were the gateway drugs for millions of Americans. They paid increased attention to vaccine mandates, supply chain issues and food shortages, the lack of support for law enforcement and the resulting surge in crime, rising gas prices, radical trans agendas sashaying their way through public libraries and public spaces. Really, the list is endless. A peek behind the curtain shows one thing: Democrats.
Are these new voting trends going to be permanent? It all hinges on how well Republicans govern (and, again, Ron DeSantis is the gold standard here). But one thing seems almost certain: payback for all the pain, trauma and nonsense the left has inflicted on our great country comes next Tuesday.
PS — I’d love to hear what you all think is the reason for white suburban women abandoning the Democrats. Chat with me!
