Why am I not posting to Facebook, you ask?

Here's what happened.

Hi, friends! Some of you are on this list because you’ve followed Smart Girl Politics for a while. Some of you subscribed to my newsletter, Fierce, which chronicled conservative women in politics. Some of you are probably trolls have nothing better to do. No matter how you got here, I wanted to let you know what’s been happening with Facebook.

The Smart Girl FB page saw tremendous growth over the summer, going from around 49k likes to 86k likes in about two months. The reach of our posts was in the millions. We were having fun while pointing out the repeated failures of our government overlords. Well, it turns out our tech overlords took notice.

Like most FB pages run by conservatives, we got occasional strikes for “misinformation.” In the last week, since the debacle in Afghanistan began unfolding, I personally got a strike for posting this to the SGP page:

Facebook throttled the page and issued dire warnings. As they do. Well, this, apparently, was the straw that broke the camels back:

I was double bad on this one, referencing both COVID and Taliban. FB put me in jail for 24 hours. I did my time over the weekend, but when I was allowed out, I found that FB had severely restricted my access to the page. In short, I can’t post to the SGP page until my betters at FB decide I’ve been rehabilitated. I think that’s probably never.

So, screw ‘em. I’ve started a new page and would love you to join me there!

Yes, FB is not the long-term solution, so I’m looking at starting a newsletter again and toying with the idea of a website. I’m also looking at Telegram and Signal to see if they are viable alternatives to Facebook.

In the meantime, let the mocking resume!
