How wrong and inappropriate of him to use the occasion of 9/11 to compare it to the Jan. 6 non-insurrection. Here’s a good write up on how dreadful his words were.
I just do NOT get the comparison. I’d like to argue my point with a few folks but I can’t debate something that I cant even wrap my mind around.
I mean, let’s say 1/6 was a “insurrection”
(so far from accurate but for argument’s sake)… 1) Loss of life (sadly there was one lost life in Jan with direct causation) and others near or on the same day which may or may not have occurred without the breach the Capital. Incomparable in number. (actually even using the word breach is a stretch. At some places I suppose some people broke in and climbed through but in other places the police open the doors and let people in)
2) Property or actual damage also incomparable.
3) “Defiling national symbols” uuummmm. I guess the twin towers represented capitalism and again assuming insurrection is the correct terminology the Capitol represents Democracy? (representative government A.K.A. constitutional republic) so a bunch of people walking around and taking pictures and a handful of people grabbing property that wasn’t theirs and getting rowdy is somehow the same as hijacking four airplanes and using them as weapons of mass destruction???? Again, I’m just spit balling here but my mind just can’t grasp their side of the narrative.
4) “violent extremists” without: 9/11, yes. within: Tim McVeigh, yes; David Koresh, maybe; the Boston marathon bombers, yes; but the official charge against those at the Capitol on Jan 6 (other than some assault of police and media) is “unlawful entry” and “obstruction of an official proceeding“ is this violent extremism on par with 9/11… I just can’t even get close.
